New virtual home for Australia's largest dedicated centre for cancer care, research and education

The day before the all important final patient move, Icon proudly launched a new website for Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre on June 22, aligning with their new home within the impressive Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre building.

Peter Mac’s new home now occupies a significant parcel of land in the “Parkville Precint” alongside the Royal Women’s and Royal Melbourne Hospitals as well as a number of other bio-medical institutions.

Following a period of intensive scoping and consultation with key user groups back in January, the complex Information Architecture was then finalised, wireframes blueprinted and concept designs locked down to enable a smooth run at a tight production and development schedule. This type of preliminary consultation was absolutely critical to this size project.

Key features of the new site include:

  • WCAG AA level accessibility compliance - allowing full access for visitors with disabilities or impairments
  • Significantly improved navigation and information architecture 
  • Responsive across desktop, laptop, tablet and smartphone 
  • New content platform enabling distributed authoring across Peter Mac 
  • Updated with the new Peter Mac brand 

While additional development and fine tuning of the site will continue over the following months, the heavily customised Drupal CMS now facilitates ease of content entry and management for the organisation.

The website will service to strengthen and enable the centre’s four strategic directions of providing the world’s best cancer care; accelerating discovery and translation research; focusing on cancer prevention and wellbeing; and developing new business models and commercial ventures.
